Really unusual piece , one-of-a-kind.
The box itself is just simply exquisite.
It is a leather box, it is initialled on the front with the initials NE, the original owner of the piece inside, and the box is decorated with wonderful gold tooling on the sides and mounted on the corners.
Inside we have a piece of jewellery made around 1880 in Paris, France, and it is a dual purpose piece.
It can be worn as a brooch or as a hair piece.
The star piece here on the top is completely detachable

It is eighteen-carat gold, silver fronted, and you can unscrew the star from the hair-pin and the star then can be worn as an individual piece.
The hair-pin section is made out of amber, and it is hand-carved and mounted in eighteen-carat slightly rose coloured gold.

It is amazing to think that this piece is still in the condition that it is in after so many years and it is contained in its original velvet and satin-lined box.
