eNum: 3413.RPEP.1550

Incredible late 17th century ring made c1690 to 1700 and set in the centre with a Stewart’s crystal.
These became very popular after the death of Charles the 1st.They were political statement as well as being a mourning ring.
This beautiful example has got “RR” in the interior and two angels all made from hand woven gold, on a bed of very, very small minute human hair.

The double Rs would have usually stood for a cryptic political message in Latin along the lines of “The king will return” or “King of Kings”, but it may also be the initials of a faithful departed as suggested by the angels, maybe even a child.
