Highly unusual Georgian pin made in England c1780 to 1810 and set in a fine eighteen-carat slightly rose coloured gold and silver setting. It depicts a wonderful serpent climbing up to face a mirror. The motif of the snake, staring down its own vanity, is a very late Georgian moral tale of humility and self-improvement. The bevelled mirror itself is a piece of art. The snake is set with rose-cut diamonds and has ruby set eyes.
