Very old period pieces of jewellery from the Georgian era, a beautiful example of a mourning ring set in a really fine eighteen-carat rich yellow gold.
It is dated and inscribed on the inside, 1841 with the original owner’s name.
It is set in the centre with a hard stone cameo depicting an urn. The urn represents cremation as a neoclassical revival symbol of ancient Greek/Roman funeral rites.
It is surrounded by a single row of natural half pearls, representing tears.
A border of black enamel represents grief. The shoulders are decorated in a split shank design which are also hand engraved and inlaid with black enamel.
