Really nice and unusual piece of antique jewellery, an original vesta case. It was made in England c1900 and is set in a very fine nine-carat, slightly rose coloured gold.
It is an antique matchbox to kept “strike-anywhere” matches. It has room on the front where you could put the initials or coat of arms or name of someone, and on the base of it there is a striker to strike the matches.
Nowadays this piece would be worn on a lovely chain, maybe a 30-inch chain, or on a muff chain.
It is a really lovely piece in a beautiful crisp original condition.
