Superb pair of original Georgian pair of amethyst and natural Pearl earrings made c1800. They are set in fine eighteen-carat yellow gold settings. Each earring is set with a foil backed round-cut amethyst at the top and a pear shaped one at the base and they are surrounded then with a beautiful row of natural pearls. At the back they are fully filled in with gold as the stones are foil backed. This was a procedure carried out in the Georgian period to give further definition and colour to coloured stones.
