Really beautiful original early to mid 19th century brooch made in France c1840 to 1860. Known as a hardstone cameo brooch: the cameo itself is done on a hard stone, in this case a cornelian.
It is surrounded by a single row of small diamonds in a very fine rub-over setting and is decorated on the outside with black enamel.
