Wonderful example of a Georgian piece of jewellery. This ring was made c1770 to 1800 and is set in a fine eighteen-carat yellow gold and silver fronted setting. It is known as a coronet ring and is set in the centre with an old rose-cut diamond in a six-clawed setting and then above it here with a little crown set with smaller rose-cut diamonds. Even the shoulders of the ring are set with a single rose-cut diamond in a split shank design which is pierced. This piece may be celebrating a coronation, or it may be mourning a child whose age is indicated by the number of stones: three or five, or it may be an anniversary ring for a couple with three children!
