Highly unusual emerald set ring made in the Georgian period, c1780 to 1800. It is set in a fine eighteen-carat yellow gold setting, with a series of five Colombian emeralds set in a very fine-clawed setting. Because this is from the Georgian era, the emeralds are foil backed. It means that in the reverse of the ring it is filled in with gold completely. The foil inserted behind the emeralds enhances the colour of the stones. This is a particular feature of a Georgian ring.
