Incredible original antique necklace made in the Georgian period, in England c1780 to 1800. It is set in a fine pinchbeck setting with wonderful oval-shaped agate stones. Christopher Pinchbeck developed this copper/zinc alloy in 1720 to allow less well-off people to access jewellery that looked like they were made of gold: it was meant to be honestly sold as a substitute, and not passed as real gold. The stones are of the most wonderful colouring, from blues to greys to oranges. It is unusual to get original Georgian necklaces like this one.
