Beautiful original Georgian mourning brooch, made in England c1800. It is set in a fine eighteen-carat gold setting. It is set on the perimeter with alternating sizes of garnet stones set in a very fine row over setting. The centre harbours the plaited hair of a faithful departed, and is surrounded by a single row of natural pearls which represents the tears for the person that was being grieved for.
